BIMA has been shortlisted for the Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets category in this year’s GSMA’s Asia Mobile Awards. The awards celebrate companies, products, services and individuals who undisputedly contributed to the development of Asia mobile industry.
BIMA’s shortlisting acknowledges the company’s contribution to the social and economic development in the region and to provide financial protection to underserved consumers who are most in need. On a mission to protect the future of every family, BIMA is one of the leading insurtech players in Asia, delivering simple and affordable insurance products to low-income consumers in six countries in the region.
The award nomination is based on a joint entry between BIMA and Axiata, one of Asia’s largest telecom group. The two companies have a key partnership in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka and this award recognises the combined effort to drive insurance penetration and enabling mHealth services within the region.
As many as 75% of BIMA’s customers globally are first-time insurance buyers – by harnessing mobile technology, BIMA is providing traditionally underserved consumers with a key financial safety net and promoting financial inclusion.
Harish Karakoti, Asia Regional Manager for BIMA, commented: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted by GSMA for Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets. By partnering with Axiata, we have brought insurance and mHealth products to a vast number of underserved consumers, providing them with a financial safety net in cases disaster strikes. We are excited to be at the forefront of Asia’s mobile revolution, and proud to be leading financial inclusion in the region.”
This is the second time this year BIMA is nominated for the GSMA Awards. Last January, BIMA was jointly nominated with Tigo for the Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets category and for driving financial inclusion in Africa.
The winners of the awards will be announced on at the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai on Wednesday 27th June.
